LAMIA BARBARA

Lamia Barbara is a dancer, teacher, and passionate researcher in the fields of dance and yoga, with 20 years of teaching and performing in over 20 countries worldwide.
Her training includes ballet, contemporary dance, dance-theater, MENAHT dance (Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic, Turkish), and classical Indian dance, studying with numerous teachers and specialising in Bhāratanāṭyam and the transcultural dance style Fusion Bellydance.
In 2005 she fell in love with Bellydance and never recovered. Her training at that time focused specifically on Raqs Sharki (Egyptian dance).
In 2007 she began her classical yoga studies, specialising in the practice of Vinyāsa Krama Yoga through study trips to India and ongoing personal research.
Since 2009 she started her journey in (Tribal) Fusion Bellydance, studying intensively with her teachers and mentors that influenced her style and vision of dance (Rachel Brice, Mardi Love, Samantha Emanuel, Ariellah, Collena Shakti to name a few).
In 2010 she got her Suhaila Salimpour Level 1 certification.
Since 2012, she has dedicated herself to the study of classical Indian dance (Bhāratanāṭyam style) and graduated cum laude in Indian classical dance-theater, at the Conservatory of Vicenza under the direction of her mentor Nuria Sala Grau.
In 2015, she was selected for a scholarship to study the masterclass with Shobana Jeyasingh, held at the Giorgio Cini Foundation in Venice, with whom she explored the hybridization of the languages of Indian and contemporary dance.
Since 2016, she has regularly taken study trips to India to deepen her knowledge of this art form with great masters of Indian classical dance, theater, and music (Praveen Kumar, Leela Samson, Kapil Sharma, among others).
Since 2018, she has studied at the IITA (International Institute of Tamil Arts), affiliated with the University of Chennai, completing the curriculum dedicated to Bharatanatyam dance with top marks.
In 2018, she studied with Master Manju Pattabhi Jois during the Teacher Training course held by the Aybo school in Bologna, deepening her knowledge of the first series of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga.
In 2018, she became a recognized member of the CID UNESCO (International Dance Council).
In 2019, she was recognized as a yoga teacher by YANI (National Yoga Teachers Association).
In 2020, she deepened her theatrical and expressive studies through the Navarasa Sadhana intensive course led by traditional dance-theater masters Kutiyattam G. Venu and Kapila Venu.
In 2025, following the birth of her son, Riccardo, she specialised in Yoga for Empowered Pregnancy, Birth and Post-Partum with her teacher Uma Dinsmore-Tuli.
From 2012 to 2015, she was the creator and artistic director of Tribalnatyam, the largest international transcultural fusion dance festival in southern Italy.
She considers herself an eternal student and loves reading tons of books, herbal teas, walks by the seaside and tarot cards.
